Conservation Program
At the CGC, we support our community in restoring, preserving and maintaining urban greenspaces throughout the Greater Cincinnati region, from private backyards to school campuses to public parks. Healthy greenspaces provide a home for wildlife and a place for people to relax and enjoy themselves. They support community building and inspire a connection with the natural world. As we work to tackle today’s environmental crises, it’s up to each of us to play a part in conserving habitats and public green spaces for the benefit of people and the planet.

Effective conservation efforts start at a local level...and what better place to start than our own backyards? We follow the mantra, “Think global, act local.” As gardeners and land stewards, we can make a significant impact by removing invasives and planting native plants and trees—and convincing others in our communities to do the same. We’re here to help you get started.

Built during the first half of the twentieth century, Hauck Botanic Garden continues to live out its legacy as an important urban greenspace for Cincinnati residents and a refuge for both native plants and the insects and wildlife that rely on them. We use the space as an outdoor land lab to educate people of all ages on the importance of nature in our urban environments. Find out how you can get involved!

The CGC’s work extends far beyond our grounds at Hauck Botanic Garden. Whether we’re training volunteers to steward public parks, installing pollinator gardens, planting trees or providing community outreach programs, a key part of our work is restoring and protecting public greenspaces throughout the Greater Cincinnati Region. Learn about our work in shared spaces and how you can get involved!

Teaching the next generation about environmental justice and sustainability is key to their development as advocates. We provide opportunities for students to learn about native plants, remove invasive species, understand natural cycles and implement sustainability in their daily lives.
