Hands On at Hauck

  • Civic Garden Center 2715 Reading Rd Cincinnati, OH, 45206 United States (map)

Want to dig for gold? We installed two Johnson-Su bioreactors on the CGC grounds last summer, and now we’re ready to open them up and reveal the “black gold” soil that we plan to distribute to community gardeners. Come help us!

Bioreactors are important for vegetable gardens because they can improve soil health by breaking down organic matter and releasing essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, making them available to plants. In collaboration with the City of Cincinnati, we were able to divert hundreds of pounds of food waste from the landfill by installing several of these bioreactors throughout our robust community garden network.

No prior knowledge or skills needed. Whether you’re totally new to gardening or have many years of experience this workday is for you! The ability to kneel and use hand tools is recommended but not required. Please bring gloves if you have them and a water bottle. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you’re comfortable getting dirty. All other tools and materials will be provided.

Want to join us? Make sure you’re registered as a CGC volunteer, then…

Please reach out to volunteer@civicgardencenter.org with any questions.
