Welcome to the Green Learning Station
The Civic Garden Center’s Green Learning Station was a gas station—until we transformed it into a unique LEED Platinum certified environmental education center! Now it’s one of the best places in Cincinnati to learn about sustainable living at home, at work, and in your neighborhood. And it’s located right on our grounds.
The GLS offers people of all generations hands-on experience growing food and native plants anywhere and everywhere, transforming trash into compost, and keeping rain water where it falls. It showcases a variety of green infrastructure features and sustainability practices, including:
Ways to make and use compost effectively
Gardening techniques to maximize water usage and space
The health and economic benefits of locally grown food
Renewable energy
Come Learn at the GLS
At the Green Learning Station, anyone is welcome to get outside, play around with science and sustainability concepts, and take ideas home to try. That includes you!
Our education center offers a wide range of classes, tours and workshops for people of all ages as well as science field studies for middle and high school students. We are also home to SonLight Power Solar School, an engaging hands-on solar energy training program.
Ongoing Research
Our site is a learning laboratory for students, professors and researchers to collect information about “green infrastructure,” or surfaces that let water go through them instead of into the storm sewers. If you’re interested in learning more about our research efforts, please contact Program Manager Mary Dudley: mdudley@civicgardencenter.org.
