Rudbeckia fulgida
Black-Eyed Susan / Orange Coneflower

  • This popular hardy perennial grows well in a variety of conditions.

  • It spreads through rhizomes to form large clumps in the garden.

  • Does well in dry conditions and, although it prefers sunny spots, it can sometimes grow in dappled shade.

  • Black Eyed Susan shares its name with another very similar Rudbeckia species. This one grows 3 feet tall and wide and produces prolific long-lasting yellow flowers that support pollinators throughout summer. Its dry seedheads are loved by goldfinches and other songbirds and the plant persists through winter with a basal rosette of thick green leaves.
