Rudbeckia fulgida
Black-Eyed Susan / Orange Coneflower
This popular hardy perennial grows well in a variety of conditions.
It spreads through rhizomes to form large clumps in the garden.
Does well in dry conditions and, although it prefers sunny spots, it can sometimes grow in dappled shade.
Black Eyed Susan shares its name with another very similar Rudbeckia species. This one grows 3 feet tall and wide and produces prolific long-lasting yellow flowers that support pollinators throughout summer. Its dry seedheads are loved by goldfinches and other songbirds and the plant persists through winter with a basal rosette of thick green leaves.
