Rudbeckia hirta
Black-Eyed Susans
This short-lived perennial grows well in a variety of conditions.
It will self-seed freely within the garden, so even as the original plant declines, many offspring will take its place.
Black Eyed Susan shares its name with another very similar Rudbeckia species. This one grows 2 feet tall and wide and produces prolific long-lasting yellow-and-black flowers throughout summer. Its dry seedheads are loved by goldfinches and other songbirds.
