Symphyotrichum novae-angliae
New England Aster
New England Aster grows 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide on narrow, upright stems.
In late summer it produces purple flowers with bright yellow centers that provide crucial nutrients to butterflies and other pollinators.
Prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil but grows well in a variety of conditions.
Horticulturist’s Notes: New England aster often requires staking. Prune stems down to half height in late spring to create shorter, more manageable plants.
